Antique portable cake stand by Hukin and Heath silversmiths. The folding mechanism with a central, upright handle, enables the stand to be stored flat or open up to two tiers, the bottom with two plates and the top with one plate.

Stamped by the maker H&H and model number 141, and marked with the patent number 14-37-11. Hukin & Heath (H&H) were Birmingham-based silversmiths and electroplaters who operated from 1855 to 1953. Founded by Jonathan Hukin and John Heath, the firm is associated with Christopher Dresser, who designed for them in the 1870s and 1880s.

Silver-plate items were not date stamped. This piece is estimated to have been made around 1920-1930. Its condition is extremely good with no dings or dents and only superficial surface wear consistent with its age.
